Glenfarclas 105 22yo
60.0%. 3600 bottles
Back in the late 1960s, the world’s whisky drinking habits were very different than they are today. Almost all the whisky available worldwide was blended and bottled at 40%. So when in 1968 my grandfather, George S Grant, filled some bottles straight from the cask as a Christmas gift for staff and friends, the word soon spread about this powerful and rich whisky. The whisky in question was measured at 105° British Proof, which is the equivalent of 60% alcohol/volume today, and so cask strength whisky was born. Glenfarclas 105 soon became a recognisable part of our range, and nowadays is one of the most popular whiskies we make – which is why we felt it was right to mark it’s 50th birthday with a special edition 105 at 22 Years Old. Why 22 yrs old? This is the oldest we could produce at 60%abv.This strictly limited run of 3,600 bottles has all the hallmarks of classic Glenfarclas 105, with the additional years imparting increased depth and power to this already robust dram.

22 years in the finest Sherry casks then bottled at cask strength, 105° proof – this is a whisky to be savoured! First thing to observe – it’s toasted amber colour. On the nose, it is rich and sweet, with hints of spice and dark chocolate. With a touch of water, more fruity notes start to appear. Take a sip – hold it in your mouth for a few seconds, really let the flavours reveal themselves. You can expect gentle spices, hints of dried fruits, cocoa and leather. Let this one breathe – it never hurts to give a whisky of this age and strength a little time. You can expect it to open up a new depth of oak, sherry and a touch of cinnamon. It has a long, lingering finish that will make you want more. All in all, this is most definitely a whisky worthy of the Glenfarclas 105 name!
